Adel First Assembly was founded in 1956 by Pastor Shelvie and Myrtle Summerlin, as the Lord had laid a burden on their hearts for Adel and Cook County. The church originally met in a tent alongside Hwy 37, even using a gas heater to warm the tent during the winter months. From the start, the church experienced steady growth and they were able to construct the first permanent building on West Fifth St in April of 1957. At this new location the church continued to grow, and by the end of that same year the new building was already becoming too small. In January of 1959, ground was broken for an addition to the original building.
By 1974, the original location was no longer enough to house the growing congregation, and so the church moved to it's current location on Massee Post Rd. In 1995, an addition was added to the building to facilitate further growth and ministries.
Over the years, the Adel First Assembly has seen the goodness and faithfulness of God on display as countless lives have been touched and transformed by His power! Adel First Assembly is a contemporary pentecostal church that has a burden to see lives saved and to be a blessing to our community. Pastor Nick and Melissa Kinsey came to Adel to pastor the church in July of 2019. Since that time we have continued to see God lead the church and show Himself faithful, and we are thankful every day for the lives that are changed because of the ministry of Adel First Assembly!
